What a pain!

Why is there a tutorial for god's sake. The XFree installer should have set it
up AA to begin with. How can anyone expect a normal person with no knowledge of
how to recompile the kernel or xfree or qt or kde or some other god forsaken
component. Yeah, I understand that it is complicated (have to detect versions
of various components), but that's what an installer is for. I friend of mine
with 10 years of DOS, OS/2 & Windows programming experience recently installed
Linux and wanted to enable the sound card. Various responses on the newsgroup
basically came down to recompiling & adding something to the kernel. This is
nuts.
