Some months ago, i was about 5minutes from removing my windows partition altogether since i could do anything under my mandrake setup. It was hard work to config it to do what i wanted, but it was well worth it. My desktop was so pretty you could just sit there watching the widgets. I could do development, multimedia(read "pr0n"), games, sound, younameit. I had E with an aqualike theme together with the respective gtk-aqua theme. Anyway. I had just gotten a divx5 encoded movie (FF:TSW) and thought to view it under linux. So i fire up XINE 0.9...but it said that i need a new plugin to play divx5 content...what the heck, it's a small glitch anyway...so i go and get the divx5 plugin over my punny 33.6K line. Some time later, i ./configure the thing, it aborts saying it needs XINE 0.10...so i say what the heck, and download that too...i ./configure it and it says i need ALSA2 while i had ALSA1... so i say what the heck, and i download that too...and i ./configure ALSA2 which aborts saying that i need linux 2.4.19 while i had 2.4.16orsomething. So i say go to hell, hit reset, booted to windows and removed the linux partition. Now i am under win2k. At least it doesn't ask me to rebuild the fucking kernel just to go from divx4 to divx5. you asked. Windows: reboot for the changes to take effect. Linux: Download, compile, install and reboot with the latest kernel... [ Reply to This | Parent ]
